The role of the DCA Board of Governors is to advise the Trade Association on the activites and strategy that best serve the data centre sector.
Steve Norris - President (Virtus)
Steven's experience gained as a Member of Parliament for over 14 years and serving as Parliamentary Private Secretary at the Departments of Environment, Trade and Industry and the Home Office will be immensely important in moving the dynamic data centre industry further towards maturity and ensure it is represented effectively at National, European and Global levels. Steven was able to oversee the adoption of European Union led standards for the motor industry during his time as Minister for Transport from 1992-1996 which helped revitalise European car manufacturing, paving the way for the world class technical innovation and excellence we see today.
Steven has gained first-hand experience of the data centre industry through the construction and operation of critical facilities in his current role as Chairman of Virtus Data Centres. On his appointment as president Steven Norris commented "I'm honoured to be appointed President and I'm looking forward to helping take the data centre industry forward. The DCA has already achieved a great deal in a short time but we can all see that this industry is expanding exponentially and the opportunities and threats are legion"
Adriaan Oosthoek - Board Chairman (Interxion)
Adriaan has a deep understanding of the colocation and wholesale data centre models, as well as significant knowledge of principal European data centre markets. Before joining Interxion as Vice President of IT and Operations, Adriaan was Executive Vice President of Data Centre Services at Colt, managing director of the Telecity Group UK and Ireland business, prior to this, he was a founder of the Dutch subsidiary of Teles, a European provider of IT services, and held a number of senior management roles, responsible for managing several regional markets throughout Europe. Adriaan has also held senior positions at Racal Datacom and Raet Systems & Services. Adriaan has a bachelor’s degree in Business Information Sciences. He studied at the Business School for Economics in The Hague and holds marketing certificates NIMA A and NIMA B. Adriaan is a keen advocate of an effective, independent data centre industry association, and therefore supported the formation of the DCA as far back as 2010. Adriaan now chairs the DCA’s Board of Governors.
Prof. Dennis Kehoe - Vice Chairman and Research & Development (AIMES)
Professor Dennis Kehoe is the Chief Executive Officer of AIMES Grid Services Ltd based in Liverpool, where he was previously the Saxby Professor and Royal Academy of Engineering Research Professor at the University of Liverpool. He has specific interest in the creation of new high growth, high technology businesses emanating from cloud computing and is a non-executive director of a number of technology start-up and spin-out businesses created from the AIMES Centre at the University and was formerly a director of the North Liverpool Academy Trust and Chairman of the Board of Aerogistics Holdings Ltd. He is currently Chairman of Opticare Ltd and Chairman of Containerport Ltd and has led a number of major research and development projects funded by the UK Government and the EU. Dennis’s role within the DCA includes assisting the DCA engage with funding bodies and research councils. He assists and advises DCA on research activities and helping to ensure funded projects are successfully delivered.
Anne Stokes (Streamwire)
Anne is a highly accomplished Business leader with a distinguished record of achievement on a Global scale. Anne known for her significant achievement in start-up operations and new market penetration throughout Europe. Anne’s achievements have been recognised as a Winner of 1992 Young Career Woman of the Year Award sponsored by Nat West Bank, twice a finalist in Cosmopolitan “Women of Achievement” and as winner of Chartered Management Institute 2015 Midlands Women in Leadership award. Anne is highly experienced at board level managing large and complex deals and relationships across multiple industries including Financial Services, Manufacturing, Retail, Transport, Energy, Automotive, Pharmaceuticals and Media- continually improving upon customer perception of service as evidenced through CSAT scores and independent evaluations. Now owner of Streamwire Ltd - “technology connected” Anne has driven an innovative plan for data centres as well as successfully navigating the many traditional myths associated with data centre design and operation. Anne sees the DCA as vital for the industry’s future and immediately signed up. Anne is keen to contribute to the DCA’s efforts to improve the value and perception of data centres whilst assisting to develop ways to provide additional business confidence in outsourcing, cloud and ICT adoption. Anne is also keen to work with DCA and its members to develop new opportunities for growth and member benefits.
Andrew Jay - Senior Vice President - Governments and Policy (CBRE)
Andrew joined CBRE in 1989 where he gained valuable experience in the City of London Development Agency and Investment teams. Following the acquisition of a regional business, Andrew transferred to the North East of England in 1994 where he set up Investment Agency and Telecoms Agency teams. Since returning to London in 2000, Andrew has become an Executive Director in the Global Corporate Services team where he is head of the EMEA Data Centres team. Andrew is an Executive Director within the Global Corporate Services division based in London. He is head of the EMEA Data Centres team which is the World’s largest data centre real estate advisory group. He is recognised as one of Europe’s leading advisers to the data centre industry and benefits from in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the technical real estate market including development, leasing and corporate data centre dynamics. Andrew is responsible for the unique research provided by CBRE into the Global Carrier Neutral Data Centre market and is a regular speaker at numerous conferences including Data Centre Dynamics, Data Centres Europe and Gartner. Andrews role within the DCA is to assist the DCA communicate and represent data centre industry messaging to governments and policy makers in order to support DCA member’s interests.
Lance Rütimann (Siemens)
Lance has been in the building technologies industry going on 30 years, during which he has held a number of management and leadership positions. His broad experience spans across several business areas such as customer service, product management, sales, marketing and management. His educational background is Electronics Engineering, Marketing, General Management and Philosophy + Management. In his role as Sen. Manager Industry affairs, one of his focus markets is Data Centres. He is very active in a number of international associations in Europe and the USA as board member or committee chairman. Lance speaks at various events providing thought leadership and advocating for safe, secure and sustainable societies.
Drs. Frank Verhagen - Senior Vice President – The Netherlands (Certios)
Drs. Frank Verhagen MSc. is co-owner and managing director of Certios, based in The Netherlands. He is also CEO of the Twente Wireless and Communications Institute. Frank has over 20 years of experience, in public companies like Devote N.V., Delta Lloyd N.V. and HSO Business Systems B.V. With Certios he has managed the funding, design and build of data centres, including a high profile energy efficient data centre that uses free cooling from passing bodies of river water. This has led to appearance in several publications. Today, Frank is a board room consultant specialising in data centre restructuring and greening ICT in several private and public organizations. Franks role is to represent the Netherlands DCA members interests at DCA Board of Governors meetings.
Steve Bowes-Phipps - Awareness, Education & Training (PTS Consulting)
Steve is a Senior Consultant at PTS Consulting Group (PTS), one of the world’s leading IT Consultancies and plays a leadership role in developing PTS Data Centre consulting services and also undertakes Green IT guest lectures at the University of Hertfordshire. Prior to joining PTS, Steve has worked in a number of senior operational management roles within various Industry sectors, serving on the management board of an internet web hosting company, directing strategy and building and running Data Centre Teams across Europe. He has been awarded several multi-national awards for Data Centre innovation and efficiency. Steve is a member of the British Computing Society (BCS) and its sub-group DCSG, with over 25 years’ experience in the sector. Steve’s DCA role includes assisting and advising the DCA in the identifying and tackling skills gaps within the Data Centre industry, specifically around raising awareness of the need for more STEM education at all levels of secondary and tertiary education.
